Our shop in Aldeburgh
We aim to combine the most natural, wonderful free-range and organic meat from our loyal local farmers with a progressive approach to butchery. Often this means using traditional and long-forgotten cutting and handling techniques, but it also means excellent service, interesting recipes and different or unusual cuts of meat.
In the shop we focus on seasonality and traditional breeds. Traditional-breed beef, mutton, local rose veal, seasonal game, organic lamb and hoggett and old English breeds of pork are all available. We also have a range of our own shop-specialities, including meat balls, traditional-breed beef burgers, wonderful pies, sausages (preservative-free to order). We also now offer our own home cured Nitrate Free bacon. Plus unusual cuts that make great little meals for children or week-day suppers. Gerard has a special interest in rare-breed beef and is trying to resurrect old favourites like spiced potted beef, salted beef and with our local free-range pork, brawn – with varying success!
But wherever possible we let the amazingly good meat speak for itself. Some of the meat available this season includes free-range Large Black pork from Oxburgh, Lincoln Red beef from Natasha Mann at Iken and organic Lamb from Alice at Shimpling Park, nr Bury St Edmunds.
We also have a fantastic cheese counter in the shop, selling the best artisan cheeses from the British Isles and Ireland, with a few Classic continental choices too. Local veg farmer Ru provides us with fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit, and we sell honey from Jemima's hives in nearby Peasenhall, and apple juice made at Moat Farm, Kenton.
